Major Crimes of the 1920's
St Valentines Day Massacre- Feb. 14, 1929
- Seven men with the Irish gangster George “Bugs” Moran who were Al Capone’s biggest rivals were shot by several men dressed as policemen.
- They were never able to pin the murder to Al Capone, but many thought he was responsible.
- Those killed were two of Morans enforcers, four of his gangsters and the last was not part of the gang, he just stuck around the gang to enjoy the thrill. Coincidentally the only one not there was Moran himself, because he decided to sleep in.
Sacco and Vanzetti Murder Case
- They were two Italian anarchists who were convicted for murdering a guard and a paymaster in an armed robbery of a shoe factory.
- They were convicted guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to death on April 9, 1927.
- Many people rioted against their death sentence, because some believe they were innocent and just tried unfairly, because they were Italian and anarchists who many people had prejudices against in the 20's.
- In the end they were executed despite many people's cry of not guilty.
