- Organized crime began, because of the of the lack of jobs and then the prohibition of alcohol and other things. Many took up this job, because even though they knew it was dangerous they were desperately in need of money to support themselves and their families. Organized crime affected the economy harshly, because almost all of the alcohol factories were shut down leaving many unemployed. The economy no longer had this industry and when people began to buy alcohol off the streets it did not help the economy. The crime leaders, who were now the only producers of alcohol became extremely wealthy.
- Not only were there the crime lords' there were also the buyers. Many people who were good citizens turned bad, because of this. Many turned against the government and because of their love of alcohol there were many more criminals in this time period and crime rates shot upward.
- Organized crime was tied into bootlegging, because people started bootlegging when prohibition began. Many gangsters took on the job to make money and to supply people with alcohol. This was an organized crime, because the 18th amendment banned alcohol so making and selling it was illegal.
